Sesame Chicken

Sesame Chicken on a Platter

Recipes worth gathering for — a little messy, very delicious.

Some nights call for takeout. Other nights call for recreating your favorite takeout dish right in your own kitchen — and this Sesame Chicken delivers every bit of that sweet, savory, crispy goodness we all crave.

This version starts with bite-sized pieces of chicken that are lightly coated in flour, dipped in an egg and milk mixture, then coated again before being fried until golden and perfectly crisp. That double coating is the secret to getting that irresistible crunch that holds up once the sauce hits.

And the sauce? A glossy, sesame-forward favorite inspired by the classic PF Chang’s flavor — sweet, savory, and just a little sticky in the best possible way. Once the crispy chicken is tossed in that sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds, it becomes the kind of dish that disappears quickly from the table.

Serve it over a bowl of steamed rice or alongside some simple vegetables and suddenly dinner feels a little more fun. It’s comforting, crave-worthy, and perfect for those nights when everyone gathers around the table a little faster than usual.

A little messy. Very delicious. Exactly how sesame chicken should be.

  • Working a few pieces at a time, drop the chicken back into the flour mixture – once thoroughtly coated, set on a plate to be cooked.
  • Heat a 1/4 inch of oil in a large pan – you know its not enough when it starts to sizzle when the chicken touches the oil. Fry the chicken in batches until each one is golden brown – about 8-10 minutes. Remove cook chicken onto a papertowl lined plate.
  • Some of my kids like it just like that! For those like the sesame sauce, drain the oil out of the pan, heat it up, pour the sesame sauce in – when it starts to thin and heat up, add the chicken in and toss to coat.
